Our disaster management and resilience program supports the visitor economy to understand the risks their businesses face and what can be done to prepare for the challenges they face. This includes identifying and assessing the types of risks likely to impact a business and understanding what can be done to reduce the threat, developing a plan to ensure that all team members know how best to respond, preparing a response kit and having a recovery plan in train.
Through targeted training, either face-to-face or virtual, EarthCheck’s team works with tourism operators to build the knowledge and skills required to better handle the threats coming your way.
Training is targeted to the geographic region, but follows the United Nations Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, ensuring operators have best practice protocols in an easy-to-follow guideline.
To support the training, a suite of support materials are provided, offering templated guidelines ensuring businesses leave the training sessions with the start of a plan to prevent, prepare, respond and recover.
Research shows that for every dollar you spend on disaster preparedness, $8 are saved in recovery efforts. That kind of preparation is good for your bottom line, but also ensures business continuity and promotes a strong, safe culture.

The Declaration is a positive document that maps out a path for Indigenous Peoples to be free from discrimination and secure in their identities and life choices.
EarthCheck science and products were developed by the Australian Government Sustainable Tourism Co-operative Research Centre (STCRC) over ten years. Our science is reviewed annually to ensure that it meets international standards relative to greenhouse gas protocols, responsible tourism, and certification.
EarthCheck products and services are built on the Agenda 21 principles for Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 Heads of State at the United Nations Rio De Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992 and aligned to the SDGs.
EarthCheck Certified provides a framework for organisations to achieve the desired outcomes for sustainable development as set out in the final report of the World Summit for Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg in 2002.
EarthCheck Certified complies with the Mohonk Agreement (2000), which outlines the guidelines and principles for an international sustainable tourism certification program. It is also a Recognised program of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
