Currumbin RSL is proud to announce that it has recently completed the EarthCheck Evaluate Plus program. The accreditation solidifies Currumbin RSL’s place as a valued member of a global group of operators who are continually improving their environmental and sustainable practices.

EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. The company places emphasis on assisting organisations to develop their sustainability practices.

The EarthCheck accreditation is an enormous achievement for the Currumbin RSL as the club prides itself on immersing itself in sustainable practices and making a difference to the community as well as the environment.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer Anne Stovin is extremely proud of the new EarthCheck accreditation. “We have been part of the community for 70 years and we take our role as a champion of sustainability very seriously. The achievement requires a whole of business approach and a real team effort, which includes feedback from our members and guests. We are committed to operating sustainably and environmentally and we hope we can influence others in our industry to do the same,” said Ms Stovin.

The newly appointed accreditation will not only aid Currumbin RSL in enhancing its sustainability practices and giving back to the community, but will also provide significant benefits for the club and its members.

“Currumbin RSL realises the link between sustainability and business performance and is continually reaping the rewards from its investment in sustainable practices. “Adds Ms Stovin.

The EarthCheck accreditation is an extremely useful asset to the club and will perfectly complement its current practices and equipment such as its three, 30 000 litre water tanks and its bottle crusher which crushes an average of 3500 bottles a week. Initiatives such as these are a major driving force for Currumbin RSL as they not only save the environment from harmful waste and overuse of resources, but they have a significant impact on financial efficiency as well.

By working with EarthCheck, Currumbin RSL has joined other global industry leaders who are taking meaningful steps towards resolving some of the very real issues that face many of our communities and our planet.

Acknowledgement
of Country

There are more than 476 million Indigenous Peoples, found in all regions of the world, from the Arctic to the tropical forests. They make up more than 6 per cent of our global population.

In the spirit of reconciliation, EarthCheck acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout the world and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Indigenous Peoples today.

EarthCheck acknowledges that Indigenous Peoples are guardians of the forests and biodiversity hotspots we all depend on. Research shows that lands managed by Indigenous Peoples, with secure rights, experience lower deforestation rates, store more carbon, hold more biodiversity, and benefit more people than other lands — including protected areas.

We recognise and support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the most comprehensive international instrument on the rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Declaration is a positive document that maps out a path for Indigenous Peoples to be free from discrimination and secure in their identities and life choices.
