EarthCheck has taken out the Business Innovation category in the 2014 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards at City Hall tonight.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the ninth annual Lord Mayor’s Business Awards recognised the local business community and its contribution to Brisbane’s $135 billion economy.
“EarthCheck was established in 1997 and has since worked with businesses, communities and governments to promote sustainable practices in tandem with increased profits, particularly in relation to tourism initiatives,” Cr Quirk said.
“The EarthCheck benchmarking and certification program now operates in more than 70 countries.
“The judges were particularly impressed with EarthCheck’s very innovative approach to measuring sustainability, the importance of which can't be underestimated.”
Cr Quirk said the 2014 awards highlighted the depth and breadth of Brisbane’s business community.
“These businesses and individuals play a critical role in establishing Brisbane as Australia’s new world city and a hub for innovation, investment, education, conventions and tourism in the Asia Pacific region,” Cr Quirk said.
“A big thank you to our award sponsors: ANZ, Australia TradeCoast, Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Times, Chandler Macleod, Clayton Utz, Channel Seven, Energex, 4BC, HSBC, BDO, Sirromet Wines and Optus for their support.”
